The Lotus That Sang at Sunrise - Buran Story

The Lotus That Sang at Sunrise

March 16, 2026

In a quiet village near the Tonlé Sap lake, there lived a boy named Dara, known for his bright smile and his love for singing. Every morning, he woke up early to help his grandmother pick lotus flowers from their pond.

One dawn, as mist floated over the water, Dara heard something soft…
A tiny humming sound.

“Hmmm… hmmm…”

He looked around.
No birds.
No wind.
Only lotus flowers gently swaying.

Then he saw it—a single lotus glowing faint gold in the middle of the pond.

Dara paddled closer.

As the first rays of sunrise touched its petals, the lotus began to sing.

Its voice was light and beautiful, like wind chimes drifting over water.

Dara gasped.
“Are… are you alive?”

The lotus shimmered and spoke gently,
“I am the Morning Lotus. I sing only for a heart that listens with kindness.”

Dara blushed.
“I… I just like music.”

“You have a gift,” the lotus said. “But one in the village carries a heavy sadness.
Your voice can help them.”

Before Dara could ask who, the lotus folded its petals and went silent.

Later that day, he found his grandmother sitting alone, wiping tears.

“Lok yeay… what’s wrong?” he asked softly.

She smiled sadly.
“Your grandfather loved music. I miss him most in the mornings.”

Dara suddenly understood.

He took her hand.
“May I sing for you, yeay?”

She nodded.

Dara sang the gentle melody he had heard from the magical lotus—soft, golden, full of warmth.
His grandmother closed her eyes. The sadness on her face slowly faded.

“That song…” she whispered, “feels like sunlight.”

From that day forward, Dara sang for the whole village.
And every dawn, the singing lotus watched over him, glowing softly in the pond.
