Long ago, in a quiet village surrounded by rice fields and mountains, there stood an old temple with a golden bell hanging from its roof. The villagers believed the bell held magical power, protecting the land from storms and bad luck. Every morning, the bell rang softly in the wind, bringing peace to all who heard it.
Living near the temple was a little sparrow with gray feathers and a weak wing. Because it could not fly far, other birds often ignored it. Still, the sparrow loved the temple and visited it every day, hopping along the steps and listening to the gentle sound of the bell. The sparrow believed the bell was its friend.
One year, dark clouds covered the sky for many days. A terrible storm spirit awoke in the mountains, sending strong winds toward the village. The villagers were afraid, but the bell did not ring. During the night, the storm spirit crept into the temple and tied the bell with thick vines so it could not move.
Seeing this, the little sparrow knew it had to act. Though its wing was weak, it pecked and pulled at the vines all night long. Its beak bled, and its body grew tired, but it did not stop. Just before sunrise, the vines broke free. The bell swung and rang loudly, sending a wave of golden light across the land.
The storm spirit fled, and the sky cleared. The village was saved. When the villagers discovered what had happened, they cared for the sparrow and built it a warm home near the temple. From that day on, the bell rang not only with magic, but with gratitude.
Moral of the story:
Even the smallest heart can protect something great.
